Boston Media Makers meet the 1st Sunday of each month at Doyle’s Cafe in Jamaica Plain, join us.
This month I brought in some twitter t-shirts and backpacks from the 140 Conference I went to in NYC and this Web Around webcam background. Looks cool in the photo.
Everyone put in business cards and we randomly gave the things away. People liked this idea, so next month, bring in your trade swag and products you want to give away and we’ll redistribute them and save the planet.

At the meeting I showed the Eye-Fi Explore Video WiFi SD card using my Panasonic TS-1.
Disclosure: I am evaluating the Eye-Fi for my book, Get Seen. I won the camera at the Living in HD website. They are giving away 30 cameras this month. Enter to win.
The camera will send photos from the camera to Flickr when there is an open WiFi connection available. THe connection at hte time I took the photos was weak, so the photos did not get sent, but when I got home and turned on the camera, the photos I took at hte meeting were posted automatically to flickr.

Everyone had a great time at what Jeff Cutler called ‘Boston Media Makers at Night’. Jeff also interviewed people and asked them who their favorite America Idol contestant was.

We had another great meeting with many more new attendees.
First up, mingling. Between 10 and 10:30 I encourage everyone to stand up and walk around and mingle with everyone. It’s a great time. This month I set up a computer with Skype and we mingled with Toronto Media Makers. It was fun.
I kicked off the meeting my having John Herman continue my explanation of why I started the group, then Len Edgerly continued, and onto Joe Cascio and continuing with Leslie Poston. I should have videoed it.
But I did video a roll call of everyone who was there. I streamed it live via Qik. Here’s the archive that was automatically sent over to YouTube.

Participants will learn to tell stories, apply storytelling to their design practice, and become reacquainted with the precious art that informs storytelling more than any other – the art of listening. We heard about the Neiman Narrative Conference March 20-22:
The Nieman Conference on Narrative Journalism, now in its 8th year, is the premier annual gathering for narrative journalists eager to enhance their powers of observation and inquiry, sharpen reporting and analytic skills, and write with literary flair.
I presented the cameras that I got from Panasonic out at CES and talked about how the new HD cameras that record to SD cards only have USB interfaces, while the HD cameras that record to tape have Firewire. This means that the newer USB cameras can’t be used for live streaming.
Then I talked about being at WBZ studios when Gil Santos was retiring and live streamed that and showed it to the people at WBZ. I’m talking to them about making it easier for people formally known as the audience to become contributors to WBZ. I also talked about how David Wade watched me live stream an interview with Carl Stevens.

Boing Boing got the film a lot of hits. We wanted to see how many hits Boston Media Makers could generate.
Jim Rizzoli of Total Access Productions talked about how he is a local distributor for NewTek TriCaster. He showed us still images of how he shoots his show with a green screen.
We heard about the ComFlm Registry from J. Aldrich and about new proposed laws to open up Massachusetts State Government.

Mingling went from 10:00 until about 10:35. Great group this month.
I started off the meeting at 10:35 and asked for a show of hands for how many people it was their first time. Whoa! Maybe 70% of the people.
After doing a quick live streamed roll call video on Qik, we went around the room and everyone had a chance to introduce themselves.
Eric ZORK Allen introduced himself in a big way, He’s a Slam Poet and ended up standing on a chair. Watch the video of ZORK.
Adam Weiss did a show and tell on a cool Black Rapid camera strap.
Jay Groccia from On Site Studios made a 360 degree photo and showed us how he takes the picture.

Boston Media Makers had another great meeting to close out the year at Doyle’s Cafe, Jamaica Plain, Boston, MA.
The group is going strong and we had a lot of new attendees. Thanks again to Doyle’s for hosting us.
We shot a video of everyone that attended including our wonderful server, Donna!
Adam Weiss did a Show and Tell of his new HD camera and stabilizer/tripod rig, the Manfroto MODO STEADY.
