Boston Media Makers has been meeting since January of 2006 in Boston.
Now that Doyle’s Cafe, our meeting place of the past 11 years has closed, we are changing things up and moving towards having pop-up events with featured speakers.
WE HAD SOME GREAT SPEAKERS
Many of our most popular meetings featured speakers who taught us how to use practical tools and techniques. Some examples include, Bruce Garber teaching us how to get more out of our smartphones for photography, Jeff Cutler giving us a hands on demonstration of a drone, and explaining the rules and regulations around it’s use, and Bruce Jones teaching us how to create our own books with Amazon publishing.
CROWD SOURCING FUTURE SPEAKERS AND EVENTS
Going forward, I’ll be leaning on the wisdom of the crowd, to find speakers and venues for future events. Please let me know if you have an idea for a future pop-up event.
I’m also open to partnering with others on events.
It’s still hard to believe that Doyle’s is closing.
Thanks again to Gerry, Donna, Eileen, and the team who took care of us for the 11 years that we had Boston Media Makers meetings there on the first Sunday of every month.
For many years Carol and I stopped in for corned beef and cabbage.
It’s the type of place that we would search for when traveling around the world. A classic Irish bar with a lot of character. Sad to see it go.
Doyle’s is closing!
Boston Media Makers – The Final Mingling at Doyle’s, October 20th from 4-7.
Hope to see many people from the past 13 years that we’ve been meeting at Doyle’s.
Mingling is first. Everyone chats. No sitting! Free coffee. 😉

Each person takes about 2 mins to explain what they are doing, are interested in, or asks a question. Also you can do a simple show and tell. Some people bring cameras, accessories, all kinds of things.
12:00
More mingling.
We prefer no sales presentations.
Breakfast is available for ordering. Towards the end have the bill go around and people pay for what they ordered an leave a nice tip.
We had a great December meeting featuring storytelling with Robin Golinski. Robin engaged the audience and we all became better tellers of our own story! Thanks Robin.
TELLING THE STORY OF YOUR WORK
The ability to describe what you do in a succinct and compelling way is essential for networking and sales. In addition to the structure of the message, the delivery is also important.
Learn how to get your listener to engage and want to know more about what you do so you don’t feel like you’re selling.

Share with the group, what device do you use to take photos, share your photo taking tips, where do you publish your photos? How do you find where your photos are being used without your permission? Can you get paid for your photos?
Share photography tips instead of talking about the camera technical specs. Fun apps do you use?
Daylight Saving Time, it ends Sunday morning at 2 AM.
Don’t forget to set your clocks back before going to bed on Saturday night, unless you have a clock that accounts for Daylight Saving Time, it ends Sunday morning at 2 AM.⏰

About Jeff:
Jeff Cutler is a multi-platform journalist who uses a variety of tools to share client stories. His extensive writing, photographic, interviewing and video skills allow Jeff to discover and reveal exciting and valuable information about people, brands, events and organizations.
We had a really fun meeting at Casa Verde in Jamaica Plain for our May meeting. Some regulars came along with some new people. It was fun spending the time mingling over beers and tacos.
Josh Bernoff said, “Best meeting I’ve ever had in a bar.” What a great compliment.
One always enjoyed the mingling part of our Boston Media Makers meetings and that what we did. Some great connections were made.
We’ll be taking the Summer off, and meeting again on October 1st at Doyle’s. See you then!
Join us in May before we take our Summer break. After the May 3rd meeting, we’ll be off until October.
We connect people who’d benefit from knowing each other.
We’ve been meeting since JANUARY 2006 and every meeting is different. It’s exciting to arrive and find new people who are there to share their story and hear about others. This group is unlike any other because everyone gets to meet everyone else in a laid back environment.
Join us if you are creative, or interested in learning about new things. Some topics that people have recently shared include self publishing on Amazon.com, new ways to shoot and share video, and pointers to interesting events happening around Boston.
Here’s a brilliant video recap of a recent meeting, by Bruce K Garber combining photos, videos and snapchat content:
Boston Media Makers is a monthly meet-up for media enthusiasts in the Greater Boston Area. We are social media enthusiasts, filmmakers, journalists, web geeks, technologists, designers, artists, entrepreneurs, and people just wanting to learn more about making and distributing media online. Come talk shop and share current projects. We learn, get inspired, and collaborate. Hosted by Steve Garfield.
GROUP DESCRIPTION: Everyone is welcome!
This meeting started out with people who were working with audio and video on the web but over the years it has expanded to include podcasters, video bloggers, filmmakers, artists, actors, musicians, writers, programmers, news reporters, PR and social media people. We help people GET SEEN. 😉
The BEST thing about this meeting is that everyone who attends, gets to meet everyone else.
I love how it has expanded. Every month is a new experience with both returning friends and new attendees.
