Meeting Report: June 18th – “Coffee with Carvin”

Ben Sheldon sent in this report:

Sweet Finnish hosted an intimate group today of just three Boston Media Makers.

David Tames showed off a Panasonic DVC ProHD camera that shoots to P2 cards, solid state memory that can write a blistering 100mbit/s for HD video. He also had a great project idea for 24 hours of Independence: creating awareness of and independence from the draconian policies of YouTube.

Andy Carvin showed us some darling pictures of his newborn daughter (congratulations Andy!) and traced his video lineage from filming ancient granaries in Tunisia to adding comic book style ‘hiccup’ titles to his baby videos; for the latter, he used FD’s Flickr tools on a black background which he then keyed out. Andy’s new book should be coming out anytime now.

Ben Sheldon gave a synopsis of last week’s Vloggercon and put out a call for videobloggers to help cover the Lowell Film Festival on July 28-30. Interested parties should contact Jason Daniells (jason [at] ltc [dot] org) of LTC, Lowell’s cable access TV station.

Also, on my walk home I shot some video and cut together a short montage []. I’m not sure if it’s appropriate for New England Stories (I only had 5 blocks to work with and no narrative), but enjoy.

FYI, Sweet Finnish will be closed Sat., July 1st at 2 PM, and be closed through July 4th.

I think our next BIG meeting should me a media making meeting. We are now thinking of July 4th media making!

If you have an idea, join us over on the Media Makers Wiki.

  1. Jeff says:

we could do a media making meeting on the remodeling of my house lol…….

  2. Carol and I had a good idea tonight. We could do a July 4th thing.

Those who could make it into Boston could meet up on the afternoon of the 4th.

We could have a flickr photo, podcaster, vlogger meetup/photo/audio/video walk…

And those who could not make it could make their own personl July 4th recording.

  3. Abby says:

That seems fun! Maybe I could actually make it!

  4. Beth says:

I’ve been meaning to get to your group for months, but this I might actually get there. (And, we can bring family too?)

  5. Jeff says:

I would love to be there, but being a branch manager for Citizens in a supermarket has me working some Sundays. I hope you all have a good time.

  6. Abby says:

OK, I was lame and didn’t go, but I did happen pass Sweet Finnish at around noon, and I saw Carl getting into his car, and he waved. Do I get any credits? No, probably not. 😛
